FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

We know that there are a lot of questions when it comes to signing your athlete up for sports. We want to reduce that pain, so we have done our best to answer some of the most frequently asked questions.

1. COMMITMENTS

Since the success of our organization is volunteer driven, it is a requirement to complete four volunteer commitments per athlete, with a maximum of eight per family (primarily fulfilled at home games, unless otherwise noted). Prior to the start of the season, a commitment deposit is required that will be returned to you at the end of the season, assuming all volunteer commitments have been fulfilled.

2. WHEN DOES THE SEASON START?

Macomb Mustangs' football and cheer team's official practice season starts at the beginning of August. Practice will be Monday through Friday from 6pm-8pm.  


There are also optional conditioning practices leading up to the start of official practice. Conditioning practices are determined by each team's respective coaches.

Once our players go back to school the Macomb Mustangs' football and cheer practices are Tuesday through Thursday from 6pm-8pm.

Our regular season games start at the end of August and go until mid-October. Games are played on either Saturday or Sunday.  Teams will play 7-8 regular season games. With a possibility of 2 playoff games and a Super Bowl.

3. WHAT IS THE AGE RANGE?

Our ages for football range from 6 to 14.

Our ages for cheer range from 5 to 14.

4. DO I NEED TO PURCHASE ANY EQUIPMENT?

Majority of the equipment for football players & cheerleaders is loaned to you and you will be required to submit a deposit that will be returned to you upon turning in of the equipment.

There may be some pieces of equipment that require you to purchase your own (i.e. mouth guards, girdles, cheer shoes, etc.).

5. WHAT COSTS CAN YOU EXPECT THROUGHOUT THE SEASON?

There may be some nominal costs throughout the season: socks, practice jersey, indoor practice facility fees, etc.

6. PLAYER WEIGHT LIMIT

Junior Freshmen: 110lb

Freshmen: 130lb

Junior Varsity 150lb

Varsity 190lb

7. WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW AHEAD OF THE SEASON?

There will be dates for Equipment Fittings and Equipment hand outs prior to August. 

There may be some optional conditioning practices leading up to official practices starting in August. 

You must get a sports physical form that is dated this calendar year prior to the first official practice in August. 

8. WHERE ARE PRACTICES HELD?

Outdoor practices are held at Macomb Town Center Park (54111 Broughton Road, Macomb, MI 48042). 

If practices are unable to be held due to inclement weather, an indoor facility may be chosen. If this happens, we do our best to be as close to the Macomb area as possible.
